Stealth Classic Thief: The Dark Project Returns for a PS5 Remaster with New Content

A hallmark that contributed to the establishment of an entire genre, the stealth classic Thief: The Dark Project is set to arrive on PS5 in a remastered version next month, starting from 3rd December 2026.
This updated rendition of the 1998 title has been revitalized using Nightdive Studios’ KEX Engine, delivering a new edition operating at 4K resolution and 120 frames-per-second. It encompasses all the content of the original game, the three additional missions from Thief: Gold, and a brand-new campaign titled The Tarnished Mirror.
The Tarnished Mirror serves as a narrative link between The Dark Project and Thief 2: The Metal Age. In this story, “a seemingly simple heist escalates into captivity, precarious alliances, and a plunge into a submerged, R’lyeh-like necropolis. Players will encounter an extended roster of foes, ambitious level design, and an authentic Thief experience that descends into disturbing, supernatural horror.”

The additional campaign has been crafted by the same team behind Thief: The Black Parade, which was a mod / expansion for Thief: Gold, developed by fans. “This collaboration signifies a unique moment in the industry, as Nightdive and Eidos-Montréal incorporate a community creation into the official canon,” the press statement noted.
Moreover, you can anticipate the following from the remastered collection:
- Contemporary controller support introduces a new weapon wheel, haptic feedback, and motion/gyro controls.
- Achievements.
- A Vault brimming with behind-the-scenes treasures.
- Visual upgrades to textures, models, animations, and more. Minor adjustments to the original level design.
- Quality of life enhancements include a weapon and item wheel for swift tool and gadget selection.
- Replay any completed mission using a mission selector.
