Ready To Feel Old? The Switch 1 Reveal Trailer Launched A Whopping 10 Years Ago Today
We’re all grown-up enough to grasp the notion of time. Certainly, there are moments when something surprises us a bit, requiring us to take a breather, but overall, we’re quite adept at responding sensibly to significant anniversaries, even though they seem like just yesterday—Wait, what do you mean the initial Nintendo Switch reveal trailer launched 10 years ago today?
Get ready and prepare that aging Matt Damon GIF, everyone, because it’s time to feel nostalgic. Indeed, today, 20th October 2026, signifies a remarkable 10 years since Nintendo presented the world with the device we affectionately refer to as the ‘Switch 1’.

This indicates it has been ten years since we discarded the term ‘NX’, a decade since we first laid eyes on the idea of hybrid gaming, a decade since we all pondered, “wait, are they using that thing under a flyover?”
Indeed, we have poked fun at the reveal over the years—the rooftop party / airport / neglectful dog owner jokes practically write themselves—but in hindsight, it did an excellent job of demonstrating just about everything the device could perform while keeping a lighthearted tone. This wasn’t a comprehensive technical analysis (as we would later see with the Switch 2 reveal), but rather something very straightforward that anyone could grasp: here’s the new console, and here’s what it’s capable of.
We also got a glimpse of several forthcoming titles for the enigmatic new system, including Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, and Skyrim (two of which would be released again on Switch 2 nearly a decade later).
Naturally, we couldn’t commemorate the anniversary without also acknowledging White Denim’s ‘Ha Ha Ha Ha (Yeah)’ background track, a melody so lively and positive that we find it hard to listen to it today without those cheerful reveal visuals instantly coming to mind.
