Addressing concerns that the future of Marathon will influence Destiny support, Bungie product lead Josh Deane urges players to support only the titles they enjoy.
In an extensive blog entry articulating aspirations for a “new everlasting Destiny” and “Destiny ‘Legacy'” initiative, Deane remarked that, “we will all tell you that nothing can assist in bridging us into [the] future more than for Marathon to swiftly develop and achieve sustainability.”
Following some ambitious discussions about business strategies, milestones, and project progress indicators, some readers interpreted this as an indication that the well-being of Destiny 2 relies on the condition of Marathon. Although it’s certainly accurate that increased success for Marathon would position Bungie in a more favorable business environment, Deane emphasizes, in a series of tweets, that “in no manner is the Destiny strategy dependent on Marathon.”
“I realize my intentions are being misinterpreted here and that’s on me,” he states regarding his comments on Marathon. “Engage with what motivates you, whatever that may be. Primarily wishing we can achieve our objectives in both spheres with a stronger bond with our entire community!”
“Just aiming to serve players who appreciate both/either realms while we construct the future,” a different reply adds. “But definitely not suggesting players support x to receive y, and not designing the plan that way. I firmly believe that there exists a motivating force for that future if there is mutual encouragement and respect within the Bungie community!”
Two more replies sharpen the focus. “Don’t purchase Marathon as a contribution or offer anything else,” Deane states. “It’s our responsibility to be there for you.”
“Only buy or engage with something that inspires you from us / you think is remarkable!” he reiterates. “We will navigate our way back home with Destiny.”
