After over twenty years ruling the PC MMO arena, it appears that Blizzard Entertainment is considering the notion of a World of Warcraft console adaptation more seriously than ever.
World of Warcraft: Forever’s beta seems to have garnered immense popularity among enthusiasts of the franchise. This brand new third installment of the legendary multiplayer title coexists with WoW’s Classic and Retail segments, and it has brought back many former Warcraft aficionados with numerous beneficial updates, both significant and minor—one of which is controller compatibility for the very first time.
In a conversation with GamesRadar regarding the choice to keep World of Warcraft: Forever exclusive to PC gamers, despite the addition of gamepad support, vice president and executive producer Holly Longdale suggested that the fantasy title may soon reach additional devices and audiences over time.
“What you just described is precisely what we’re aiming for,” she mentioned to the publication. “Play it wherever you desire and, ultimately, on whatever you wish. However, the initial phase of that journey is ensuring gamepads function exceptionally well with World of Warcraft, and we felt Forever was the ideal starting point.”
Longdale believes all gaming platforms might become “more widespread” in the future as well. She specifically referenced the Xbox Project Helix, rumored to be a PC-console hybrid device of some sort. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed that the next-gen console can even support your PC games earlier this year.
“Honestly, we just want the ability to play it everywhere. We’ve seen individuals getting it operational on the ROG Ally X,” Longdale continued. “I believe that the work we’re doing on gamepads will provide players a great deal of versatility that I think transcends consoles.”
World of Warcraft: Forever officially launches on the 4th of November.
Despite difficulties faced by the rest of the Xbox division, Forever’s beta was said to be the “largest” in series history.
