Hyperdimension Neptunia captivated me upon its initial launch on the PS3, as its ensemble of characters was loosely inspired by various gaming consoles, such as PlayStation, Xbox, and (at that time) Wii.
The franchise developed a dedicated fanbase and resulted in numerous sequels, spin-offs, and re-releases. However, no new mainline installment has appeared since 2015.
This will change in 2027 with the arrival of Hyperspace Neptunia: Unlimited on the PS5 and PS4, a full-fledged sequel that first launched in Japan earlier this year.

This edition vows to deliver the most “comprehensive” magical girl adventure to date, featuring new gameplay mechanics and more intricate dungeons.
Here’s a brief extract from the description:
“A brand new journey has begun for the Goddesses where dungeons are more extensive than ever before. Goddesses can effortlessly transition from running to flying to discover new elevations. Explore waterways, rooftops, and other hidden spots to engage with foes and even uncover unique items that can assist you on your quest.”
The press announcement also highlights that there will be additional options for customization compared to previous titles, enabling you to “alter your preferred Goddesses’ hues, attach playful accessories wherever you wish, enhance Processor Unit gear discovered in dungeons that elevate stats, and craft using the classic Disc Make that aids Goddesses in acquiring new abilities.”
No precise date has been established for this game’s release in the west, apart from a vague 2027 timeframe, but physical copies will be accessible for both PlayStation consoles in North America. (In Europe, only the PS5 version will receive a physical release.)
Any NepNep enthusiasts among us? I only engaged a little with the original, which was undoubtedly rough around the edges, but I recognize that this franchise has a surprisingly robust fanbase that has sustained its activity for such a lengthy period.
