Another Switch 2 masterpiece

Evaluations for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are now available, including a technology-centric review from John Linneman at Digital Foundry.
Unsurprisingly, Linneman showers accolades on Nintendo’s remake, with merely a few insignificant criticisms. Initially, the resolution varies from 1080p to 1440p while docked, and from 720p to 1080p in handheld mode. It is noted that handheld mode incorporates some modifications such as enhanced level-of-detail distances and texture reductions, yet it remains a remarkably sharp and visually appealing game.
Regarding upscaling, Nintendo appears to have adopted FSR over DLSS. Although this development isn’t particularly disheartening, Ocarina of Time does experience moments of shimmering, which we observed in our assessment.
However, the frame rate is exceedingly commendable. While the original operated at a meager 20fps (which, to clarify, was entirely adequate at the time) and the 3DS remake improved this to 30fps, the Switch 2 remake aims for 60fps and achieves it reliably. There might be a few “extremely minor loading stutters” occasionally, but it remains stable overall.
Linneman points out various other delightful details, such as the fog effects present in environments along with the illumination from the lava in the Fire Temple. On the whole, it’s a breathtaking game, certainly one of Nintendo’s finest accomplishments in terms of sheer presentation and performance.
