If you happened to overlook it, the Ocarina of Time revival reviews have arrived, and they are indeed quite favorable. They are so favorable, in fact, that the game has soared directly to the top of Metacritic’s Best Games of 2026 list, and it’s resting comfortably high on the site’s all-time rankings.
As of this moment, the game boasts a Metascore of 96 based on 81 critic assessments. This has relegated the prior gold winner, Sektori, to second place with a score of 93. Resident Evil 2: Deluxe Edition follows in third, also with 93, while The Witcher III: Wild Hunt – Remaster (92) and Big Walk (91) complete the top five.
It’s a remarkable beginning for the remake, without a doubt, but arguably even more astonishing is its current placement on the Metacritic all-time list. At present, OoT on Switch 2 ranks as Metacritic’s 27th all-time best game, placing higher than titles such as Skyrim, Half-Life, and other series installments like Tears of the Kingdom and Wind Waker.
The original Ocarina of Time remains securely in the top position, holding a Metascore of 99 (the sole game to achieve such a remarkable feat), but given that each game ranked 34-16 on the list has a score of 96, there’s every possibility that the remake will ascend (or descend) as further reviews are published, altering the standings.
And for those curious, yes, this confirms OoT as the site’s highest-rated Switch 2 title thus far, surpassing Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (95), Hades II (95), and Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (94).
