A report from Sensor Tower illustrates just how significantly GTA 6 is outpacing in terms of preorders when positioned against some of the largest AAA titles from the last six years.
The analytics company gathered preorder figures for recent blockbuster successes such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022), Diablo 4 (2023), Hogwarts Legacy (2023), and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (2023), then analyzed them alongside the preorder trend for GTA 6.
Modern Warfare 2 ranked as one of the most triumphant games of recent times: preorder amounts for the shooter exceeded double that for Diablo 4 at 45 days before release, and Modern Warfare 2 achieved the highest opening weekend for Call of Duty at $800 million (Black Ops 6 would subsequently become the largest launch in Call of Duty’s history in 2024, and was also the first CoD title to debut day and date on Game Pass).
At present, concerning preorder figures, GTA 6 stands 148% in front of Modern Warfare 2 at this moment from launch.

Nonetheless, it is important to mention that this report does not include physical editions: Sensor Tower’s comparative data solely represents digital preorders in the United States.
The company estimates that as of October 13, GTA 6 has reached 6.08 million preorders, translating to an anticipated revenue of $594 million. Sensor Tower indicates that 74% of preorders have occurred on PlayStation, while 26% are on Xbox, and the overwhelming majority of preorders have been for the $100 ultimate edition of GTA 6.
