Funcom’s survival MMO Dune: Awakening is advancing northward with a complimentary expansion that swaps the deserts of Arrakis for a frigid new map.
The expansion, titled Blood and Ice, is set to launch on 1st December. Funcom announced it incorporates “approximately 35 hours of new progression”, alongside fresh vehicle modules, enhancements, and specialization traits. It will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox.

The new map, named the Polar Sink, alters the game’s typical survival routine dramatically. Rather than shielding yourself from intense heat, you will need to discover methods to remain warm, improving your gear with materials found exclusively in the Polar Sink.
The map comprises two biomes, the tundra and the ice cap. You will initiate your journey in the tundra, where affluent water shipping families have constructed opulent strongholds, before attempting to access the heavily fortified ice cap. Once you enter, you can gather ice to chill your base equipment and accelerate production.
As per Funcom, the expansion “redirects the focus back to ground-level survival, with navigation, temperature regulation, and combat all being crucial elements in your progression”. The studio also mentioned that upcoming updates will provide additional incentives to revisit the area.
Blood and Ice introduces a new Events tab in the main menu. Soon after the expansion’s release, a new event titled Water Crisis will succeed the current one, The Scourge. Funcom states that every event can be accomplished in both single-player and multiplayer modes, and that it intends to hold them more frequently, each with fresh narratives and complimentary rewards.
Funcom has rolled out a cosmetics shop, which it claims will support ongoing development and complimentary updates. The shop will begin with a rotating array of items, including designs inspired by the Dune films to coincide with Dune: Part Three’s theatrical release this December. The goal is to ultimately provide the entire catalogue for all time.
