Following a fairly calm few weeks for Gears of War: E-Day, The Coalition has just introduced its 20th Anniversary celebration update, bringing back a classic Versus mode along with a new limited-time quest for Horde Siege.
Guardian is the Versus mode in focus, which has been part of nearly every Gears installment since Gears of War 2. It’s not surprising, therefore, that this nostalgic mode is being revitalized for E-Day. For those who haven’t experienced Guardian before, each team initiates a round with a ‘leader’, and it continues until one leader is eliminated.
It was a solid mode back in the day, but only if your leader doesn’t act foolishly by getting themselves taken out instantly. I’m just pleased to see it contribute more diversity to E-Day’s Versus selection.
Alongside the returning mode, Horde Siege is introducing a new “For the Queen” mission. This limited-time task has disabled resupplies at caches scattered across the map, which means you’ll need to depend on what you enter with, and what you can salvage from grub corpses.
We’ve also noticed a few extra ‘Anniversary’ challenges, skins, banners, and poses available in the store as well.
Will you be diving into a round of Guardian? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
