Regardless of how effectively they operate games or how significantly they enhance their appearance, the discussions surrounding the forthcoming PS6 and Xbox Helix will likely be largely influenced by their pricing.
The technology in video gaming has advanced to a level where enhancements in graphics are not as evident, compelling manufacturers to defend the new console expenditure in alternative ways. A financial commitment as high as $1,800, however? That’s an entirely different topic.
A recent article from Fortune suggests that Microsoft has internally estimated the cost of the Xbox Helix to range from $1,200 to $1,800. The company might choose to subsidize the system to lower its price, but it appears no decision has been reached on that matter.
Moreover, Fortune indicates that the Xbox Helix is scheduled for a 2028 release, and next year, it is expected to unveil a “next-generation handheld device” for the marketplace. Microsoft had previously collaborated with Asus to launch a ROG Xbox Ally handheld system, although that device was not entirely produced in-house. It remains uncertain whether the publication is alluding to another product of that nature or something solely created by Microsoft.
Naturally, ongoing speculations suggest that Sony is also developing a handheld unit to accompany its upcoming PS6 console. This device has also been rumored to exceed a price of $1,000. The latest indications reveal that, due to the current component shortage, it’s costing Sony over $680 for the PS6’s RAM and SSD alone.
There have been hints that the PS6 may not be as robust as the Xbox Helix, but even with reduced power, it still seems we’re looking at a price tag over $1,000 for Sony’s upcoming device.
Just yesterday, we surveyed Push Square users, posing a straightforward question: would you pay $1,000 for a PS6? Out of more than 4,700 votes, 65% replied with a “no, I will not pay that much for a console” response.
