Activision has expressed regret and committed to eliminating visuals of a real-life tragedy from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Families of the victims understandably responded with anger upon discovering that news footage from the 2022 Itaewon catastrophe was used in the game to portray a fictional North Korean invasion.
The clips depict individuals being taken away on stretchers, in body bags, and so forth.
The Itaewon tragedy transpired during a Halloween celebration four years ago, when over 100,000 individuals gathered in a narrow passageway, resulting in some being crushed. Nearly 160 people lost their lives, with many others injured.

Grieving families characterized the use of the footage as “extremely inappropriate and irrational,” prompting a response from publisher Activision. It is reported that the videos will be omitted in the upcoming game update on 12th November.
In a statement, a representative from the publisher mentioned that it had “not intended to reference or trivialize the Itaewon catastrophe or any other real-world misfortune in any manner.” It extended its sympathies to the victims’ families and apologized for the video’s inclusion.
