There are countless impressive indie titles launching weekly that are hard to track, but this one, Queen’s Domain, has genuinely piqued my interest. It debuts on PS5 today for £15.99 / $19.99, drawing inspiration from King’s Field, the franchise FromSoftware created prior to Demon’s Souls.

In essence, it’s a role-playing game that integrates retro aesthetics with the fantasy RPG genre to offer a challenging journey focused on combat and exploration. You’ll voyage to an isle known as the Isle of Naesied, where your father went missing. From this point, an adventure unfolds.

Combat appears to be quite demanding, as there are no block or parry features, and a single attack consumes your entire stamina meter. With the absence of autosaves (only manual saves are available), it seems necessary to tread carefully while exploring the island. You commence the game with a basic wooden spear, but eventually, you discover a Holy Sword that permits you to move quickly, uncovering new areas for exploration.
