‘Game First, Then Movie’: Ed Boon Responds to Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat Crossover Pitch
Street Fighter film ensemble believes it would be “awesome”
For countless fighting game enthusiasts across the globe, Street Fighter versus Mortal Kombat has represented the ideal showdown since the 90s.
Actor Noah Centineo, portraying Ken in Paramount’s newest live-action Street Fighter film, expressed his desire to witness some form of crossover on the cinema screen.
In an interview with IGN, when questioned about the possibility of a crossover with Warner Bros’ Karl Urban-led motion picture:
“Here’s what I’m hoping for – I want more Street Fighter. If you present an opportunity for us to return and revive these incredible characters, I’m all in, and I know we all are.”

Ryu actor Andrew Koji chimed in: “Absolutely, that’d be amazing!”
Responding to the comments on social media, series creator Ed Boon said succinctly: “Game first, then film.” He included a playful winking emoji at the end.
Boon, a devoted Street Fighter aficionado, has been endeavoring to merge Capcom’s franchise with Mortal Kombat for many years.
Former producer Yoshinori Ono verified in a 2019 interview that the Mortal Kombat developers had sought to include a Street Fighter guest character, but their requests were ultimately denied by the Japanese publisher.
Street Fighter has previously lent its legendary characters to other fighting game franchises like Tekken and Fatal Fury, but it seems Mortal Kombat’s graphic violence is the barrier in this case.
I hope it occurs one day, as I believe this would be a dream fulfilled for the fighting game community.
