Alien Isolation 2’s PS5 Release Window May Have Been Narrowed

Alien Isolation 2 is set to receive a physical disc, suggesting that a 2027 release timeframe could be viable for the awaited sequel.
As you’re aware, Sony will halt the production of disc-based games in January 2028, indicating that publisher SEGA won’t be able to distribute a boxed edition for the PS5 after that period.
While it’s accurate that, as it stands, physical versions on the Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S might still be released post-deadline, I suspect the developers’ assurance in this statement would be somewhat diminished if platform limitations were to hinder their objectives on the PS5.

In the embedded social media update, it asserts that “remaining faithful to the analogue essence of Alien is one of our fundamental principles.” I just can’t comprehend how this aligns without planning for a 2027 launch on PS5, including a physical edition.
It’s truly unfortunate that Sony has placed its partners in this situation, but numerous recent statistics have indicated that the sector for physical editions continues to shrink. (Even if there is still clearly an identifiable market.)
I suppose advertising this as a unique feature for Alien Isolation 2 is a perfect illustration of the unfortunate circumstances we currently find ourselves in. Nevertheless, I do believe this confirmation has unintentionally narrowed the survival horror’s release timeframe – although developments can always be altered, of course.
