Nintendo has today provided further revelations into the creation of Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 in the most recent installments of its Ask the Developer series. One such narrative revolves around the new vocal talents, which apparently include some recognizable voices.
Series Producer Eiji Aonuma and game Director HokWai Ng clarify that the group aimed not to “disturb established perceptions of how particular characters sound based on the original,” thus Nintendo organized blind tryouts to truly concentrate on aligning the voice with the character.
“We intentionally concealed the names of the voice actors during the Japanese auditions to compel ourselves to choose based solely on which voices closely mirrored those of the original,” Aonuma-san remarks.

As fate would have it, this method led Nintendo to choose an actor who had previously participated in the N64 original — voicing the identical character, in fact! “None of us anticipated that,” Aonuma-san states.
In classic Nintendo secretive tradition, the discussion does not reveal the voice actor or character by name, but there is already considerable conjecture that Kaori Mizuhashi (the voice of Navi in the original) could be returning to voice the fairy once more this time.
We won’t have confirmation until we experience the game ourselves — and even then, we should consider that Mizuhashi would likely only be involved with the Japanese version — but what an intriguing stroke of fortune for Nintendo. Hey, you’re unlikely to discover anyone who sounds more like the N64 original.
The initial two chapters of this Ask the Developer series disclosed the remake’s development team and various design sketches in addition to a plethora of other intriguing information. You can find out more about the highlights in our coverage below.
