Almost five years have elapsed since Super Mario 3D All-Stars initially launched on the Nintendo Switch in honor of the cherished game franchise’s 35th anniversary, yet it was only available for purchase for half a year – and this remains accurate, regardless of a new Switch 2 update.

Indeed – a new update for Super Mario 3D All-Stars has emerged, as outlined by Nintendo on its official support website. Although the company does not delve extensively into what the update entails, the description mentions that “multiple issues have been resolved to enhance gameplay on Nintendo Switch 2.” In addition, Nintendo specifies that “the software update is essential for operation on Nintendo Switch 2,” as well.

While this unexpected update is encouraging news for Super Mario enthusiasts with a Switch 2, it still leaves many unsatisfied – after all, not everyone was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of the 3D All-Stars bundle when it was launched in 2020, before Nintendo removed it from sale just months later in 2021. The restricted release period, unsurprisingly, led to a variety of hopeful resellers, with scalpers advertising the trio-in-one for up to $2,600.

Not much has changed since then, though non-retail prices appear to have decreased somewhat, based on current online listings. The bundle continues to fetch significantly more than its original sale price, however, and Nintendo seems unlikely to alter its position on Super Mario 3D All-Stars being a limited-time offering. Who knows, though…

Perhaps this fall we will witness another similar collection of Super Mario classics as it marks its 40th anniversary – arguably an even more remarkable milestone, if you ask me. Until that time, those in possession of 3D All-Stars and a Switch 2 can enjoy three of the greatest retro games of all time.

While they are not Super Mario 3D All-Stars, here are some of the most thrilling upcoming Switch 2 titles to anticipate.
