Throughout nearly 40 years of gaming, The Legend of Zelda franchise has reinvented its key personas numerous times, elevating them to the skies, the oceans, or into a post-post-apocalyptic ruined realm. Hence, it’s not entirely absurd to consider that, at some juncture in the intricate Zelda timeline, our protagonists would be resurrected in a courtroom.

This is precisely the scenario with a distinctive Ocarina of Time mod titled ‘Hero of Law,’ which transforms the N64 classic into the game it was destined to be, sort of: Ace Attorney.

Watch On

The Newer Team modders have effectively utilized Ocarina of Time’s geometric models as a foundation for a legal narrative set in Hyrule, echoing Ace Attorney’s investigative gameplay. You’ll be scrutinizing evidence, pinpointing contradictions in witness testimonies, and making loud objections, albeit featuring Zelda characters this time. Link even strikes the Phoenix Wright gesturing pose. Perfect.

You can obtain the mod from Newer Team’s website, although you’ll need “to provide an Ocarina of Time N64 ROM or Wii Virtual Console WAD file.” There is even a free, spoiler-free guide if you encounter any difficulties.

For those who may not know, Newer Team is a modding collective centered on Nintendo games and has previously released extremely popular mods for New Super Mario Bros. and 3D Mario, several of which have amassed over half a million downloads. It’s refreshing to observe them venturing into more exciting realms.
