“We appreciate your understanding!”

Update []:

Regrettably, this has now been postponed to 2026, as indicated below:

“We initially intended to launch cross-platform mod support for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S later this year, but the launch is now being pushed to 2026. We sincerely apologize for the delay and will provide more information as we approach the release. We appreciate your understanding!”

Original Story: Continuing its festivities in celebration of 10 years of The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has revealed a new cross-platform mod initiative – and it will introduce mods to Xbox consoles for the very first occasion.

Indeed, The Witcher 3 Next-Gen will soon enable in-game mods downloaded through the mod.io service. Another open-world title Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy has also recently adopted mod.io, with both games permitting users to create and disseminate mods across PC and current-generation consoles.

The mods themselves need to be developed on the PC platform, but they can subsequently be shared to mod.io and downloaded by users on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. CDPR does highlight that “given specific content standards and selection criteria for each platform, it might not be feasible to transfer every mod uploaded on PC to console,” which aligns with how most console mod systems operate.

Regarding the timeline for when this mod support will be operational, the development team indicates that mod.io capabilities are arriving in The Witcher 3 “in a game update released later this year” – which is expected to be the game’s final patch after a decade on the market.

There has been a significant amount of news surrounding CDPR and its collection recently, which will be welcome news for RPG enthusiasts. We have seen a couple of stunning Xbox controllers recently for the 10-year anniversary of The Witcher 3, while the team has also confirmed that Cyberpunk 2 is now in development alongside the forthcoming Witcher installment.
