Honestly, what calendar year are we even in?! It’s been quite some time since Battlefield last tussled directly with Call of Duty, leaving Activision’s franchise largely uncontested in their storied shooter showdown. Come 2025, however, the gang returns in force—Battlefield 6 squaring off against Black Ops 7 later this year. So, which one has you chomping at the bit to play on Xbox?
After yesterday’s look at EA and Battlefield Studios’ unveiling, buzz surrounding BF6 is practically crackling in the air—and rightfully so. The project appears to revisit what once made the classic Battlefield days shine, while sidestepping the missteps that marred 2021’s Battlefield 2042. Add to that the four-year gap since the last entry and anticipation is nigh tangible.
Still, counting out Call of Duty whenever prognosticators claim victory for the opposition is a losing bet. The series has displayed unwavering consistency for so long that it stands as a rock-solid, near-guaranteed delivers-what-fans-want powerhouse. Black Ops 7 tipping its cap to its beloved 2012 predecessor Black Ops 2 should only sweeten the pot—especially with launch-day inclusion in Xbox Game Pass.
Returning to Battlefield, that same dependability is worth remembering. BF6 might look stellar and we’re itching to dive in, yet the saga’s recent track record has been streaky. One need only recall the pre-release promises versus the 2042 reality of late 2021. We were shown one product but shipped something else entirely, leaving us approaching each new release with cautious optimism. Redemption is on EA’s to-do list, and BF6 will be measured against that.
Here at Pure Xbox HQ, we’re eager to dive into both titles for separate reasons. There’s a tad more adrenaline surrounding Battlefield 6 thanks to the four-year wait plus yesterday’s showcase, so that perhaps nabs our early vote—but we’re equally pumped for Black Ops 7. We awarded last year’s Call of Duty a 9/10, after all!
