It’s genuinely quite absurd
We’ve received quite a bit of information in recent weeks regarding how Xbox is leading PS5 as a publisher, but the scope of Microsoft’s achievements in terms of copies sold has often been unclear.
The company seldom releases sales statistics like this; however, thanks to Alinea Analytics, we now possess a much clearer perspective on Xbox’s performance in the PS5 marketplace, and the figures are indeed quite astonishing.
If you examine the top 10 PlayStation titles in April, for instance, you can observe how extraordinary the numbers are:
Alinea Analytics notes that Xbox “represents a notable 69% of copies sold in the top 5″, and offers the unbelievable fact that “Xbox is now selling more game copies on PlayStation than PlayStation itself”.
Reviewing the Forza Horizon 5 data, you can discern how well it performed on PS5 during its initial days, and it’s intriguing that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle didn’t perform nearly as well at launch.
In fact, Forza Horizon 5 is now selling “over 10 times quicker” than Indiana Jones on PlayStation:
Overall, the outlet states that “Xbox’s releases on PlayStation have been a mixed experience so far”, pointing out titles like Pentiment as having struggled since landing on the platform. There are significant exceptions though, notably Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 5 in recent days.
Furthermore, add the surprise success of Oblivion Remastered, along with the continuing success of Minecraft, to understand why Xbox is thriving. And, with DOOM: The Dark Ages, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, Gears of War: Reloaded, and more on the horizon, do not be astonished if such statistics become routine throughout 2025.
“Interestingly, Xbox-owned games made up 48% of copies sold in the PlayStation top 10 in April. Xbox achieved this with just three titles (PlayStation had only two in the top 10, featuring TLOU2 and MLB).
With major AAA releases like Doom: The Dark Ages and Elden Ring: NightReign, along with highly anticipated smaller releases like Revenge of the Savage Planet and Monster Train 2, plus the ongoing success of recent titles and the usual favorites, the May 2025 PlayStation rankings are already shaping up to be an exciting one.”
