Microsoft Reverts Price Increase For The Outer Worlds 2, Will Launch For $70 On Xbox

“In line with current market conditions”

Not so long ago now, Microsoft announced sweeping price increases for some of its Xbox products, including plans to release future AAA games at $80. In turn, October’s The Outer Worlds 2 was set to be the company’s first $80 release, but those plans have now changed.

In a statement provided to Windows Central, Microsoft says that The Outer Worlds 2 will now launch at $70, “in line with current market conditions”. We’ll drop the full Xbox statement on this course correction down below:

“We’re focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99 – in line with current market conditions,”

What’s interesting about this statement is that Microsoft also commits to other “full priced holiday releases” coming in at $70 rather than the proposed $80. Could this include Call of Duty: Black Ops 7? That certainly looks to be the case, although given it’s technically an Activision release, we’re not 100% sure if that title will be covered by these changes.

Either way, it looks like Xbox intends to stick to $70 pricing in general for the 2025 holiday season, and it remains to be seen whether that proposed $80 price point will come into affect in 2026. We reckon it will, especially given next year’s incredible lineup, but here’s hoping it doesn’t!
