Microsoft CEO Comments On Recent Xbox Layoffs, Doubles Down On AI

“These decisions are among the most difficult”

Now that the dust has somewhat settled on the masses of job losses that recently occurred over at Xbox, and as the company moves towards a new fiscal year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has put out a fresh statement on moving forward.

The Microsoft boss starts out by mentioning the company’s recent layoffs, adding that the move has been “weighing heavily” on them in recent weeks. Nadella goes on to say that those who were let go “have shaped who we are as a company”.

“Before anything else, I want to speak to what’s been weighing heavily on me, and what I know many of you are thinking about: the recent job eliminations. These decisions are among the most difficult we have to make. They affect people we’ve worked alongside, learned from, and shared countless moments with—our colleagues, teammates, and friends.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to those who have left. Their contributions have shaped who we are as a company, helping build the foundation we stand on today. And for that, I am deeply grateful.”

In a typically tone deaf statement for a CEO, Nadella doesn’t take long to move on from ‘difficult’ layoffs and start talking about AI. The Microsoft boss says that the tech is one of its core “priorities”, going as far as saying that the company is “doubling down” on AI for the future.

“To deliver on our mission, we need to stay focused on our three business priorities: security, quality, and AI transformation. We are doubling down on the fundamentals while continuing to define new frontiers in AI.”

If you’re a glutton for punishment you can go ahead and read the full statement via the link down below, but most of the rest of it is typical corporate waffle – be warned. We’d like to add that we are still thinking about the thousands of jobs that have just been cut over at Xbox, and we hope those affected are well on their way to landing on their feet and finding new roles elsewhere.

Thoughts on this, folks? Stay calm and talk to us about this statement down below.
