Heading out to the old country
- by Ben Kerry
After a rather low-key promotional campaign up to this point, Hangar 13 is finally unveiling Mafia: The Old Country today – beginning with a comprehensive gameplay presentation and a confirmed launch date! You’ll be able to dive into this latest Mafia installment on August 8th, 2025 – and we’ve attached the fresh trailer above for your viewing pleasure.
Similar to the 2020’s Mafia: Definitive Edition remake, The Old Country features some stunning graphics, now set against a more traditional rural backdrop. The enjoyable combat mechanics from the remake seem to have transitioned over as well – with some enhancements expected for 2025, of course.
“Engage in critical battles, whether in close quarters with a knife or at a distance utilizing a variety of weapons. To prove his worth to the Torrisi family, Enzo must become adept with all the tools of the craft, including historically accurate handguns, rifles, and shotguns, to navigate any challenges and relentlessly eliminate the Don’s adversaries.”
Driving makes a return too — a hallmark of the Mafia series — along with plenty of exploration on trusted horseback, which will offer a different atmosphere compared to the more contemporary Mafia environments we’ve encountered lately. Another noteworthy change is the team’s decision to go for a linear format this time around – which is also set at a budget-friendly $50.
If you’re curious to learn more about what Mafia: The Old Country has in store – it could be worthwhile to check out the team’s PAX panel later today. With the game’s release just about three months away, we anticipate the team will share a lot of exciting information during this upcoming third-person escapade for Xbox.
