Final Fantasy Dev Suggests PS5 Exclusives Are A Thing Of The Past For The Series

“We will endeavor for multi-platform launch”

We finally received the fantastic announcement we’d been anticipating earlier this year – Final Fantasy 16 was not merely shadow dropping for Xbox on the same day it was revealed, but Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade was confirmed simultaneously.

It has been stated by Square Enix that the organization aims to adopt a more multi-platform strategy with its launches these days, but that hasn’t been consistently true over the past few years – it has improved significantly, yet still not flawless.

Nonetheless, it seems that upcoming Final Fantasy titles will no longer be restricted to PS5 exclusivity, at least as per Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida. He was recently questioned by Anime Game Network if Square Enix would “completely go multi-platform for future Final Fantasy installments”, and here’s his response:

“Absolutely, this was also declared by our president and CEO, Takashi Kiryu. Our strategy at Square Enix is to transition to a multi-platform model for our forthcoming titles. As you’ve observed, in terms of releases from our Creative Studio III, we have announced that Final Fantasy Tactics Ivalice Chronicles will be launching on September 30, across multiple platforms. It is reasonable to conclude that we will aim for multi-platform launches going forward.”

As stated, Final Fantasy Tactics Ivalice Chronicles is the forthcoming Final Fantasy title debuting on Xbox with a launch date set for September 30th, followed by Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade later in the year.

The outlook appears promising for Final Fantasy on Xbox, which is something we haven’t been able to express for quite some time. Once the next main installment is officially announced, let’s hope we finally see that “Xbox” logo right beside it!
