“We will strive for multi-platform release”
We finally got the amazing news we’d been waiting for earlier this year – Final Fantasy 16 was not only shadow dropping for Xbox on the same day it was announced, but Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade was confirmed at the same time.
It’s been mentioned by Square Enix that the company wants to take a more multi-platform approach with its releases these days, but that hasn’t always been the case over the past couple of years – it’s been a lot better, but not perfect.
However, it does sound like future Final Fantasy games won’t be PS5 exclusives anymore, at least according to Final Fantasy 16 produce Naoki Yoshida. He was asked by Anime Game Network recently whether Square Enix would “go fully multi-platform for future Final Fantasy titles”, and here’s what he had to say:
“For sure, this was also announced by our president and CEO, Takashi Kiryu. Our Square Enix strategy is that we want to go multi-platform for our future titles. As you have seen, in terms of titles released from our Creative Studio III, we announced that Final Fantasy Tactics Ivalice Chronicles will be releasing on September 30, multi-platform. It is safe to assume that we will strive for multi-platform release moving forward.”
As mentioned, Final Fantasy Tactics Ivalice Chronicles is the next Final Fantasy game launching on Xbox with a release date set for September 30th, and it’ll be followed by Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade later in the year.
The future looks bright for Final Fantasy on Xbox, then, which is something we haven’t been able to say for a very long time. As soon as the next mainline entry is announced, let’s hope we finally see that “Xbox” banner right next to it!
