One of Xbox’s largest launches of 2026 is not actually debuting on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S – it’s Blizzard’s World of Warcraft: Forever, which remains a PC exclusive set to release on November 5th.
Nonetheless, there are indications that Blizzard may be gearing up for a native Xbox launch in the future, as they have incorporated native controller compatibility for WoW: Forever, meaning it will be playable on gadgets like the ROG Xbox Ally.
In a recent conversation with GamesRadar, World of Warcraft Vice President Holly Longdale seemed to suggest that the franchise will ultimately arrive on Xbox consoles, even if it’s not in the near term.
I posed a question to Holly Longdale: Is World of Warcraft: Forever being released as a PC-exclusive a squandered chance?
“What you just outlined is precisely what we’re aiming for. Play it wherever you prefer and, at some point, on whatever you desire. But the initial phase of that journey is ensuring gamepads function exceptionally well with World of Warcraft, and we believed Forever was the ideal starting point. Observing the trajectory of developments like Project Helix and others, I think platforms will become a bit more widespread,” Longdale remarks.
As you can observe, the WoW VP hints at Xbox Project Helix in her response, implying that bringing World of Warcraft to a device that already accommodates PC games will facilitate future ventures for Blizzard.
Nonetheless, she clearly emphasizes that the goal is to ultimately permit World of Warcraft “on whatever you wish,” with the initial phase focusing on incorporating gamepad support that works “exceptionally well.” Later in the conversation, she also notes that the advancements in controllers will provide players “flexibility that I believe exceeds consoles.”
We’ll need to be patient and see what unfolds,
