He has been involved in several significant AC titles

At the very beginning of this month — amidst all of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass announcements — Ubisoft revealed that it has officially established its ‘Vantage Studios’ division to oversee Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six moving forward – and today, the organization has encountered a slight obstacle.

While trying to persuade him to remain, Assassin’s Creed franchise head Marc-Alexis Coté has departed from the firm. The previous Ubisoft developer served as co-director on Assassin’s Creed 3, creative director on Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, and producer on every AC title since, before taking on the position of franchise lead in 2022.

Here’s what Ubisoft had to express regarding the situation in a statement to VGC:

“In light of the organizational changes announced in March 2025, Marc-Alexis Côté has opted to pursue a new journey outside of Ubisoft. Although we are disheartened to see him depart, we are confident that our skilled teams will continue to build upon the robust foundation he has helped establish.

We are incredibly thankful for the influence Marc-Alexis has had throughout the years, especially in developing the Assassin’s Creed brand into what it is today. His leadership, creativity, and commitment have left an enduring impression on our teams and our players. We extend our heartfelt thanks for his numerous contributions and wish him ongoing success in all his future ventures.”

This appears to be a relatively friendly separation, and we are eager to see the direction the Assassin’s Creed series will take from this point. As previously noted, the franchise will now be managed by Vantage Studios, although it seems many current Ubisoft team members will continue their work on it at the new organization.

Ubisoft finally launched Assassin’s Creed Shadows in February 2025 following numerous postponements, and it is continuously updating that title alongside its 2023 release Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The team also has several AC games in development, with one of those speculated to be a remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
