Juxtaposing your game with Portal is a daring assertion, yet indie creator Pixel Maniacs appears quite assured about its forthcoming puzzle game ChromaGun 2: Dye Hard.

In a latest Reddit entry, one of the developers states, “Valve never produced a Portal 2 sequel. So we did.” We all recognize Valve hesitates with threequels, thus we’ve had to settle for Portal 1 and 2, alongside several spin-off projects, rather than a fully-realized Portal 3. Portal 2 is deemed one of the top puzzle games worldwide, making ChromaGun 2’s task quite significant.

The GIF shared by the developer clearly illustrates the basis for their comparison to Portal. It’s a first-person shooter puzzle title where you wield a clever weapon to change objects into a variety of hues. There’s a complimentary demo accessible on Steam if you wish to experience it personally. Download it right here.

The backdrop of the game feels more reminiscent of Portal than the mechanics themselves, however. You’re aiding a corporation in testing out its innovative technology, though it appears significantly more voluntary compared to Aperture’s testing facilities.

The actual puzzle-solving aspect of ChromaGun 2: Dye Hard strikes me more like Qube and Qube 2 rather than Portal. This is certainly due to the colorful blocks and the obvious absence of portals, which, if you recall, were a crucial component of Portal.

The initial ChromaGun launched in 2016 and boasts ‘Mostly Positive’ ratings, so this sequel might turn out to be exceptional. Pixel Maniacs also has another title if you aren’t keen on puzzles: Can’t Drive This. One player drives a monster truck while another constructs the course in real-time. It appears chaotic and could be tremendous fun if you gather a group of friends for a four-player splitscreen experience.
