“This isn’t just a child’s play”

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Easy there, folks. It appears that The Edge of Allegoria, a turn-based RPG reminiscent of the graphical aesthetics and gameplay of classic Game Boy treasures, might not be the family-friendly Pokémon homage it initially appears.

Slated for release on 7th August on Switch 1, Button Factory Games’ tribute to vintage RPGs on Nintendo’s cherished handheld adopts an adults-only vibe to distinguish itself and, judging by the trailer, it undoubtedly seems like you may need to shield any nearby youngsters’ eyes and/or ears, unless you wish for them to encounter mild references to drugs, profanities, and mentions of various horse anatomy. Goodness gracious!

There have already been some critiques of the Steam edition of this title, which has been accessible since December last year, and quite frankly, it sounds like a potty-mouthed Pokémon game with some fairly decent combat to us. A favorable scenario.

Whether or not the crude humor resonates may be more a question of personal preference/a contentious point, so be sure to check out the trailer at the top of this very article. It’s boasting a “Very Positive” user rating (from 139 reviews) on Valve’s platform, so it might just be worth taking note of, especially if colorful characters and pixelated assets appeal to you.

We’ll leave you with some press release details and a handful of screens!

“Collect the body parts of your foes for profit and personal fulfillment, level up to conquer even mightier enemies, and equip yourself with a greater arsenal of weapons and gear than any rational individual could realistically be expected to carry at any moment.”

There are over 144 distinctive adversaries to confront on your journey through Allegoria, from fierce Canadian geese and majestic tortoises to your conventional fantasy mainstays like dragons, unicorns, and the ever-present slimes! There are a plethora of creatures and beyond to meet, each boasting unique item drops that can be sold in stores for the gold you’ll need to acquire weapons and gear to support you on your quest.

The Edge of Allegoria debuts on Nintendo Switch on 7th August and is available for $24.99 on the US eShop.
