Events are poised to cause disturbances in the night on stage with announcements that Paranormal Activity is making a comeback to a distinct form of theater. As reported by Variety, a novel play influenced by the franchise that commenced in 2009 is set to terrify audiences in an entirely new manner through a fresh installment filled with creaky floorboards and doors gradually closing.
Scheduled to debut in the London West End this winter, Paranormal Activity: A New Story Live on Stage will center on James and Lou, a couple relocating from Chicago to London, who realize that their new home has some uninvited residents. Naturally, they adopt the classic method that the franchise was built upon and establish a handheld camera to capture whatever it is that’s causing disturbances in the night.
Felix Barrett is at the helm of the production, whose prior work encompasses the critically acclaimed Sleep No More, an immersive encounter where the audience dons masks and is permitted to follow the cast of the show. Levi Holloway has scripted the play, whose credits include the spine-chilling stage production, Grey House. The new performance will be held at the Ambassadors Theatre for 12 weeks, eerily commencing on December 5.
After the announcement, Barrett released a statement expressing, “From viewing the promotional campaign of the film 20 years ago, where you observed cinema audiences jump from their seats in terror, I have often pondered how you could recreate that visceral reaction.”
