NetEase, the developer behind Marvel Rivals, has revealed some positive yet negative news for those who like to collect every item in a game. The company is mulling over the idea of re-releasing older battle passes, albeit at a greater cost. From May 15, The Season 0 battle pass will be available for sale again to coincide with the launch of the Galacta’s Gift event, but it will cost 590 Lattice instead of the original 490 Lattice.

The battle pass can be purchased until May 29 and the contained rewards can be unlocked at any time once bought. It will cost roughly $7 if you don’t have any of the premium in-game currency. The developer mentioned that it is considering the option of re-releasing older battle passes, though they’ll be at least 20% pricier. NetEase also pointed out that these restricted-time battle passes won’t offer any free rewards. Every reward will only be attainable through buying the Luxury Battle Pass.

NetEase disclosed in a blog post that “the possibility of future Battle Pass returns is being evaluated, but such comebacks will take at least two seasons and will be priced a minimum of 20% above the original seasonal rate.”

This is part of the current pattern where gaming is becoming more expensive due to a range of elements such as unstable market circumstances, the escalating cost of video game development, and the effect of US President Donald Trump’s tariff threats on the industry having an impact on the gaming sector.

As for why the prices of digital goods like battle passes are rising, there are numerous reasons. Hiking prices on a digital product can help balance out escalating costs in other divisions, but the most straightforward reasoning here is that these price hikes are happening because a developer or publisher can do so.

With the Switch 2 releasing next month, Nintendo has increased the price of several of its first-party games to $80, while Microsoft has also revealed price hikes for its Xbox Series X|S consoles and games.
