Recall Blue Protocol? The anticipated Amazon Games MMO showcasing an anime theme and a plethora of social features. Well, that title got scrapped some time ago, but Tencent-supported developer Bokura has recently brought it back as Blue Protocol: Star Resonance, which successfully drew in a large number of players with varied responses right from the start.
Blue Protocol: Star Resonance launched on Steam earlier this week and almost instantly attracted over 94,000 simultaneous players to race capybaras, battle monsters with friends, and engage in mini-games that wouldn’t seem out of place in Genshin Impact.
Steam player reviews present a somewhat grimmer view, however, as only 48% of the 6,000 users who provided feedback rated it positively. Star Resonance currently boasts a ‘Mixed’ classification, with numerous complaints regarding its redundant currencies and the manner in which the game restricts access to particular content.
“The visuals and style are appealing, but that’s where the praise ends,” one review states. “It feels like mobile-gamer gacha fodder. Everything is time-restricted, with limited daily attempts leading to a list of tasks you must complete just to ensure daily log-ins.”
“It restricts your ability to progress through the narrative, farming, dungeons, mining, etc.,” another comment reads. “You’re essentially not permitted to play for over 30 minutes without being barred from progressing. Everything is tied to an energy gauge. It’s a mobile gacha game attempting to compete with real MMORPGs but can’t measure up.”
Another simply enumerates the 16 in-game currencies/vouchers.
