In 2015, creators Pilgrim Adventures and GrabTheGames Studios launched The Deed, an adventure-RPG that disrupted the conventional framework of mystery narratives. This week, The Deed is accessible on Steam at no cost for a brief period, but only if you grab it swiftly.
From now until Saturday, September 27 at 10 am, The Deed is complimentary for all users on Steam. The best way to depict the concept is to reference the board game Clue. However, this time, you’re not trying to uncover the murderer because your character is the culprit, and the objective of the game is to escape the crime.
Players take command of Arran Bruce, a man who believes he is the legitimate heir to his family’s historic estate, Dunshiel House. Arran’s father disputes this and has omitted him from the will in preference of Arran’s younger sibling. For Arran, the answer is clear: His sister must perish. How she meets her end is your decision as the player.
There are ten potential murder instruments, such as a rope, a candlestick, and rat poison. Your selected weapon also influences your strategy regarding whom to implicate in the offense. Domestic servants and other relatives of Arran might be the key suspects if you play your cards right and leave sufficient evidence convincingly.
After Arran’s sister is eliminated and a scapegoat is chosen, there’s one final chore. The police dispatch an inspector to probe the crime and question Arran. If players can’t maintain their narratives, they might find themselves in a Columbo scenario and end up incarcerated. Multiple endings exist, and not all of them are favorable for Arran.
