Borderlands 4 received a substantial new update today that introduced a console FOV slider and performance enhancements, but Gearbox mentions it is hearing concerns regarding stability and has some recommendations for those gamers.
In spite of the acclaim for Borderlands 4, players across the board have been voicing frustrations about performance troubles, particularly on PC, since the launch of the game. Today’s patch was also meant to serve as a further attempt to mitigate some of those concerns, but as PC Gamer indicates, it seemingly worsened the situation for some users.
You need not linger long in Borderlands circles on Steam, Reddit, and X to uncover accounts from users noticing a decrease in frame rate and a rise in stuttering following today’s update, which prompted a response from Gearbox, who stated on X:
“We’ve received word that some players are encountering diminished stability after installing today’s update.”
Gearbox advised, “stuttering challenges should ease over time as the shaders continue to compile in the background during gameplay. If you keep facing issues after 15 minutes of uninterrupted play, you can also clear your shader cache through your graphics card manufacturer’s recommended procedure.”
Naturally, since Gearbox appears to be referring specifically to PC gamers, numerous factors may come into play that could be purely hardware-related, but personally, 15 minutes seems rather excessive to cope with stuttering and frame rate drops based on the severity.
Nonetheless, Gearbox mentions “if you persist in experiencing problems,” simply file a support ticket here and they will assist with troubleshooting.
