Final Fantasy 14 Evercold’s second job is the ranged Zephyr DPS that comes with a deadly pet bird

Following extensive months of conjectures and hypotheses derived from fleeting hints left in previous trailers, enthusiasts of Final Fantasy 14 have been validated. The secondary role of the Evercold expansion is indeed a ranged physical DPS who utilizes rapid-fire crossbows and a lethal avian companion in battle – named Zephyr.

Unveiled at the FF14 Fan Fest Japan, Zephyr is characterized as a version of a “pet role.” However, you’re not toting any ordinary bird. The avian companion of Zephyr is referred to as the Nephele, a winged hunter capable of synchronizing assaults with you and offering aerial support for the entire team. Effective positioning appears to be essential in this scenario. You can observe the Zephyr in action in the latest trailer below.

Similar to the forthcoming Bastion role, you will have the chance to engage with Zephyr exclusively via the new Evolved combat system intended to simplify gameplay somewhat. The initial job quest for the Zephyr is expected to appear in Gridania at a starting level of 90 when patch 8.0 launches.

Final Fantasy 14 Evercold has also experienced a minor postponement during the FF14 Fan Fest. The MMO expansion is now set to launch on February 23, 2027, though players who pre-order will gain entry to the early access phase starting on February 19, 2027. (Pre-orders will commence on November 4 and include some additional perks.)

We also received a glimpse of numerous new regions arriving with Evercold. There’s the picturesque Sessrymnir, as well as Skioblaonir, which resembles a floating isle, followed by a montage hinting at “More Locales From The Fourth.” To say the least, they are all stunning.

Final Fantasy 14’s new typing minigame is already creating turmoil as players battle against bots and challenging words: “It just came out”
