It’s time for another installment of Box Art Brawl, can you imagine it!
Last week, we examined two remarkably different covers for NSO entrant Avenging Spirit on the Game Boy. The varied designs did the North American version no favours, as it only garnered 30% of the vote, leaving the more adorable Japanese and European cover to claim the remaining 70%.
This edition, we’re focusing on another newcomer in the Game Boy NSO catalog: Revenge of the ‘Gator. This pinball title first debuted on the handheld back in 1989, challenging players with a series of paddle-based tasks across its primary and bonus stages.

North America and Europe chose the same artwork for this one, so it’s another East vs West clash this week.

Well, there are some dynamics at play here, aren’t there! These ‘gators are not amiable. Observe those grimaces! The furious ball return! The exploding scoreboard in the background! Honestly, we’re quite fond of the layout here, with the enormous ball and bumpers effectively conveying the sensation of being inside a pinball machine.

This one is somewhat more amicable. The ‘gators have shed their scowls, the explosion has been substituted with a rainbow, and instead of bouncing the ball back to you, the cheerful character at the front is catching it. How delightful! Even the massive table itself has adopted a lively jungle motif.
Thank you for participating in the vote! We hope to see you next week for another edition of Box Art Brawl!
