EA CEO won’t call out the GTA 6 delay by name, but says the new Battlefield release window is “clearer than it was before”

I have truly respected, and I say this sincerely, EA CEO Andrew Wilson’s knack for addressing a query without genuinely addressing it, and his recent (non) statement on the GTA 6 delay and its implications for Battlefield 6 serves as a prime illustration.

During the question-and-answer segment of EA’s Q4 2025 earnings call, Wilson was inquired about “the major anticipated release” and how its postponement to May 2026 might influence “the competitive scenario for Battlefield’s launch period and future performance expectations.”

Battlefield 6 does not have a definitive release date, but EA recently indicated that it is scheduled to debut in Fiscal Year 2026, which spans from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, suggesting the game is expected to arrive before April 2026. Wilson, naturally, refrained from explicitly mentioning GTA 6, but he strongly hinted that Battlefield 6 is now better positioned to meet that release timeframe than it was previously, following Rockstar’s delay.

“Game development takes numerous years, and if you weren’t already prepared to launch within this timeframe, it may prove challenging to get ready and capitalize on what is potentially a less competitive period than we may have anticipated earlier concerning Battlefield,” Wilson remarked.

“What we’ve consistently stated is that we’ve been working towards a period that we believed was most suitable for Battlefield, but we wouldn’t launch during a timeframe that we felt diminished the value we’ve invested in the franchise or the value we believe our players will gain when they begin playing.”

“I think now, without going into too much detail, we feel that window is clearer than before, and we’re optimistic about launching Battlefield in FY 26.”

Allow me to translate Wilson’s corporate language: Yes, the postponement of GTA 6 is beneficial for the Battlefield 6 release window due to reduced competition. However, while GTA 6 has a set release date, Battlefield 6 possesses only a vague timeframe. The only deduction we can truly make is that Battlefield 6 is unlikely to be released close to GTA 6’s launch date of May 26, 2026.
