Doug Bowser Reiterates The Importance Of Diversity Within Nintendo
“we aim to achieve a variety that represents our players”
In a discussion with the Brazilian publication Folha de S.Paulo (thanks to The Gamer), Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo of America, emphasized the significance of diversity within the organization. While the interview is now a bit older, this particular insight was highlighted and commended on ResetEra.
He was directly questioned about any modifications to Nintendo’s policies in light of attempts from The Trump Administration to curtail DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) efforts. Bowser affirmed that Nintendo has valued diversity “for many years” and will maintain this stance:
“We always want to attract the finest talent available and keep that talent. We also recognize the importance of having diverse perspectives in terms of backgrounds, experiences, and insights since our players come from varied backgrounds.
“Thus, we strive to maintain a diversity that mirrors our players within our organization.” This approach has been established for many years, even before the term DEI became widely used. We will continue to uphold this commitment. It’s essential to us.”
Currently, Nintendo still features a dedicated page on DEI within its careers website that proclaims, “We’re welcoming, approachable and respectful – we’re Nintendo. All characters welcome.”
Furthermore, its CSR information page promotes this initiative, stating, “At Nintendo, we respect human rights and recruit talent, irrespective of race, ethnicity, nationality, ideology, religion, creed, origin, social status, class, occupation, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status.”
In the US, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 became available on April 24th after a brief delay while Nintendo assessed the possible effects of tariffs from The Trump Administration.
