We expected we would have to bide our time until the launch day to discover the development team responsible for Donkey Kong Bananza, but surprise! Nintendo has caught us off guard by making an early announcement.
As disclosed during a recent Bananza hands-on event, we now definitively know that Nintendo EPD is the force behind this project, or, to be more precise, “the Super Mario Odyssey group”.
Of course, this may not be the most astonishing news for those who have kept track of the game’s marketing thus far. All indications pointed to the team after Treehouse footage and hands-on gameplay showcased a game infused with more than a hint of Odyssey DNA — what’s a Banandium Gem if not a Power Moon turned on its side? — and enthusiasts have been quite convinced ever since. Nonetheless, it’s reassuring to know for certain.

Recently, we were fortunate enough to go hands-on with the beloved primate’s forthcoming platformer for three hours, and we were thoroughly impressed with what we experienced, asserting that it has “the characteristics of a classic”. You can explore our comprehensive preview coverage below, but with the Odyssey team acknowledged, it’s safe to conclude that we’re feeling quite enthusiastic.
