Evaluating the Assassin’s Creed Shadows release in its recent financial analysis, Ubisoft asserts that this newest chapter in the stealth-action series “has evidently surpassed Assassin’s Creed Odyssey” in two crucial measurements.
Shadows outperformed the Steam debut of Valhalla within just a day, yet fell short compared to the Viking-themed rendition of Assassin’s Creed overall. Ubisoft labeled Valhalla’s launch a “perfect storm we may never witness again,” and their latest report confirms that Shadows has produced “the second-highest Day 1 sales revenue in the franchise’s history—just behind Assassin’s Creed® Valhalla.”
So far, consumer spending on Shadows has surpassed that of Odyssey, long regarded as the pinnacle of modern Assassin’s Creed titles (though some fans are loyal to Origins), “with the player engagement also exceeding expectations.”
“Gamers have recorded 160 million hours in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, highlighting its captivating gameplay and the lasting allure of the series,” Ubisoft stated.
In a later portion of the report, Ubisoft reflects on its choice to postpone Assassin’s Creed Shadows in the final phase despite the financial expectations tied to it. “This choice has already positively influenced the quality of Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” the company believes.
As our own Andrew Brown articulated: If the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows suggests lessons have been absorbed from Star Wars Outlaws, I say: let Ubisoft take their time.
Ubisoft indicates that the team predominantly concentrated on refinement during the final stages, although there were “a few narrative adjustments.”
Amid all this corporate terminology, it’s crucial to remember that Shadows is an enjoyable game as well. Our Assassin’s Creed Shadows review lauded “more assurance, texture, and intention” than we’ve experienced from Ubisoft in years, and the game’s Steam ratings remain at a “very positive” 80%. (Interestingly, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey currently ranks higher than Shadows on Metacritic by a few points.)
The latest Assassin’s Creed Shadows update discreetly introduced some parkour enhancements ahead of a significant update anticipated later.
The overall Assassin’s Creed Shadows roadmap features a unique collaboration, additional story components and difficulty settings, alongside much more to come.
