It has been well established that Andor season 2 would connect directly to Rogue One. Yet, the unveiling of the origin of the Star Wars prequel’s most famous line came as a surprise, in such an understated manner.

“I hope everything works out for you,” Cassian tells the hotel clerk in the eighth episode of Andor season 2. Previously, the clerk served as a bellboy and interacted with Andor during his visit to Ghorman as Varian Skye.

The clerk, evidently holding Rebel sympathies, responds, “Rebellions are founded on hope.”

Fast forward about a year, and Cassian shares that same phrase with Jyn Erso in Rogue One. Later, during a conflict within the Rebellion, Jyn speaks before a room full of Alliance members, encouraging a change in tactics to seize the Death Star plans. At that point, she articulates the identical line: “Rebellions are founded on hope.”

Andor season 2 has also tackled several more critical moments from the Star Wars timeline around Rogue One.

The latest episodes alone have provided a new perspective on Mon Mothma’s legendary speech, plus provided insights into how Cassian and K-2SO initially crossed paths. Additional context has been given regarding the Ghorman Massacre, which ignited anti-Empire sentiments throughout the galaxy.

“I believe viewers of Rogue One, after finishing season 2, will perceive the film differently,” Andor actor Diego Luna shared with Entertainment Weekly. “Everything will resonate differently, understanding the events that led to K-2 being there. It will alter how you experience the journey of Rogue One, I think. Not only regarding K-2, but also many other characters. I think that will be remarkable.”
