What’s it going to be?
Just in case you’d forgotten, Nightdive Studios apparently has its “next big thing” to announce at QuakeCon 2025 later this week! The company mentioned this during a recent livestream, and we’ve been intrigued about it ever since.
But what’s it going to be? Well, we speculated that a remaster of Quake 3 Arena or Quake 4 would probably be the most likely bet, and you told us that you wanted to see Quake 4 Remastered to be announced above all else.

However, a few Quake fans are pointing to a recent pinned comment during a Nightdive livestream that mentioned “Orbs” – and some think that means a Quake 3 Arena remaster is the more likely of the two:
“All eyes, i mean Orbbs will be on that announcement” Seems like Nightdive might be hinting to a Quake 3 remaster here?”
To be honest, we’re not really reading much into this – it’s seemingly just a comment from a fan that has no connection to Nightdive Studios aside from being pinned in the chat – so we still think Quake 4 remains a possibility.
If you consider that Quake 1 and 2 have received the treatment in recent years though, it stands to reason they’ll go for 3 next, even though plenty of people argue that it doesn’t need a remaster and Quake 4 makes more logical sense.
Anyway, we’ll find out very soon! QuakeCon 2025 takes place this week from August 7th-10th, and we wouldn’t be surprised if the big announcement happens on the first day – we’ll be keeping an eye out on Thursday just in case.
