Cyberpunk 2077 Analysis For Switch 2 Highlights How Great The Xbox Series S Version Is

“Series S keeps a 60fps pace, only slowing now and then.”

Tech analysts at Digital Foundry have spent the past week poring over the Nintendo Switch 2 build of Cyberpunk 2077, lining it up against several other console editions—including the Xbox Series S.

The budget-friendly Xbox is the standout point of reference; the outlet stresses how capably the cheaper box runs the title, both visually and with its eye on 60 FPS performance.

Kicking off with resolution, the gap between Xbox Series X and the Nintendo Switch 2 ranges anywhere from non-existent to more than 70%, while the Series S enjoys a 73% resolution lead over the new Switch in its performance setting—the mode chasing 60 FPS on Microsoft’s console and 40 FPS on Nintendo’s.

“Against Xbox Series S, resolution differences vary from nothing to upwards of 70 percent in favour of the Series S – the larger numbers may well be down to the fact that we often hit the max 1080p on Switch 2, so there may actually be overhead beyond that we just aren’t seeing. Looking at the performance mode differentials, there is a big gulf: an average 73 percent resolution advantage for Series S which is targeting 60fps vs Switch 2’s 40fps.”

In motion, the Series S release is labelled “a league above” the Switch 2 version, delivering a near-steady 60 FPS versus the Nintendo system’s “noticeable dips in demanding scenes” at 40 FPS.

“It’s no surprise to see Series S exhibiting zero issues whatsoever handling Cyberpunk 2077 at the 30fps limit – the Zen 2 cores in current-gen consoles are over twice as fast as the Jaguars in last-gen, so Virtuos’s comments are proven out. In performance mode with a capped 40fps, Switch 2 finds its limits, with obvious frame-rate drops in heavier areas, while Series S powers through at 60fps, with just occasional drops. It’s a class apart.”

All told, the Series S earns a “decisive” victory, though Digital Foundry adds that the Switch 2 edition still behaves “pleasantly” overall—especially given Nintendo’s machine must act as both home and portable console.

To wrap up, Digital Foundry revisits the claim that 60 FPS Series S titles ought to “easily” transition to Switch 2, a point raised in a recent developer chat. They deem it realistic—though likely not at matching frame-rates—before warning that “CPU-intensive current-gen games might require extra tuning.”
