Xbox Adds Multiple Highly-Requested Features In April 2025 Update
Surprise! Xbox has unexpectedly delivered one of the most impressive monthly updates in a very long time, potentially reaching back several years! This update is packed with numerous long-desired features, including the “Stream Your Own Game” capability on consoles and the option to purchase games through the Xbox mobile app!
The latter is something that Xbox enthusiasts have been keenly anticipating for quite some time, and it will also be accompanied by the ability to join Xbox Game Pass and claim Perks via the mobile application as well. Exciting developments!
Additionally, there’s a plethora of other noteworthy features within this Xbox update, such as the capability to use Xbox Remote Play and stream games from your Xbox console on web browsers, televisions, and Meta Quest devices. However, the downside is that Xbox Remote Play will no longer be accessible directly through the Xbox app on mobile. As a silver lining, they’re introducing the ability to stream backward-compatible games via Xbox Remote Play, something that has never been feasible before.
Let’s explore all the fantastic features included in the Xbox April 2025 update.
Xbox Mobile App – Purchase Games, Join Game Pass, Claim Perks
We’re thrilled to share that one of the top requested features from the Xbox community is coming to the Xbox app. Players can soon purchase games and add-on content, join Game Pass, and claim Perks directly from the Xbox app on mobile devices.
This feature will begin rolling out to beta users on iOS and Android and will be available shortly for all on the Google Play Store for Android users and the Apple Store.
Xbox Stream Your Own Game – Now Available On Consoles
Beginning today, Game Pass Ultimate members can stream specific games they own alongside the Game Pass library on their Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles.
We’re actively adding more titles to the Stream Your Own Game collection for Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta). Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can stream from a selection of over 100+ cloud-compatible games on supported devices.
Xbox Remote Play Expands + Backward Compatibility Support
Although access to Xbox Remote Play will no longer be available directly through the Xbox app on mobile, players can still play from their mobile device’s browsers. In addition to web streaming, players will soon have the ability to access Xbox Remote Play on more devices, including compatible Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV devices, and Meta Quest headsets.
By integrating Xbox Remote Play and Xbox Cloud Gaming on Xbox.com, we can support more devices, enhance access to the store on the Xbox app, and streamline the streaming experience, which will facilitate the development of new features in the future. Additionally, from this month onwards, backward-compatible titles from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 will be streamable via remote play on all supported devices.
Fresh Method To Free Up Space On Xbox Consoles
Along with showing unused add-ons and resizable games, we will now provide suggestions for removing duplicate game copies and titles that players no longer have access to.
Xbox Game Hubs Launch For Selected Users
New game hubs are now available on Xbox consoles. Game hubs feature essential information about the selected title, including player statistics, achievements, friends currently playing the game, recent captures, available add-ons, events, and more.
For a select number of players, game hubs will appear whenever a title is chosen from their recently played or installed lists.
