The Zenless Zone Zero update 1.4 is set to be released on December 18, as developer HoYoverse revealed in a recent announcement earlier today. This patch introduces new S-tier Agents, Miyabi and Harumasa, with the latter available for free to all players, alongside comprehensive adjustments to the controversial TV mode puzzle-lite minigame.

Miyabi is classified as a Frost Anomaly Agent wielding a katana, while Harumasa is an Electric Agent equipped with both a bow and a sword. To unlock Harumasa for free, players will need to reach Inter-Knot level eight after the deployment of update 1.4.

In addition to a complimentary S-tier Agent, version 1.4 is described as a noteworthy update, featuring significant narrative revisions up to chapter three, an exploration mode allowing players to move around as or alongside their Agents, and combat systems undergoing a foundational change by making ultimate Decibels specific to each character rather than collectively shared across the team.

In a conversation with GamesRadar+, three developers from the Zenless Zone Zero team elaborated on the challenges of balancing TV mode with player preferences. The segmented gameplay mode has sparked mixed reactions since its launch, and while TV mode isn’t being eliminated entirely, this narrative enhancement seems to meet the desires of those who prefer a more streamlined gaming experience.

“From the outset of development, we envisioned Zenless Zone Zero as a game intended for long-term engagement. Like any living organism, the game will develop and adapt with the backing of its players,” producer Zhenyu Li, along with Game Designers X and Y, stated in a joint comment.

“TV mode has been one of the most talked-about aspects, reflecting player feedback.”
