Nintendo: “All possibilities remain feasible”

Last week, Nintendo announced that The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker might be making its way to the Change 2 as part of the GameCube collection upon launch.

If you’re worried that this might eliminate the possibility of the Wii U HD version of the game returning in the near future, there seems to be some optimism. Tim Gettys of Kinda Silly Video games spoke with Nate Bihldorff, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of product development, who indicated that “all possibilities are [still] feasible”.

Here’s what he had to say (via VGC):

I also had the opportunity to sit down with Nate…and managed to ask a variety of questions, and typically in Nintendo fashion, we didn’t receive too many clear answers.

However, I did inquire whether having The Wind Waker available on Nintendo Change Online would prevent it from being released as a proper Wii U port on the Change 2, and he was quick to respond ‘no, all options remain on the table’.

So there you have it – there’s still a chance we may receive this game in some different format or as a separate release in the future. Gettys also points out that there are already “examples of games” on Change Online that you can play in different formats:

Clearly, nothing is guaranteed one way or another, but there are numerous examples of games that may be on Nintendo Change Online and you can access them in various forms, whether it’s a remake, or the same port version or whatever it may be…but really, it was a case of ‘never say never’.

Zelda: Wind Waker will be accompanied by Soul Calibur II and F-Zero GX when the GameCube library launches on the Change 2’s Expansion Pack tier. Nintendo has also confirmed it is introducing a wireless version of the GameCube controller.

Would you still really like to see Wind Waker as a standalone release on Change 2? Let us know in the comments.
