Yukinobu Tatsu Draws Parallels Between Dandadan’s Beloved Character and a Legendary DC Hero
The author of Dandadan has compared one of the prominent characters from popular manga and anime to a classic superhero. In a discussion with Shueisha’s MANGA Plus, creator Yukinobu Tatsu mentioned that he notices numerous parallels between the psychic teen Momo Ayase and the Man of Steel.
“Momo resembles Superman. Superman assists individuals with his extraordinary abilities, but I believe that’s not the essence of his character,” the creator explained during the interview. “In times of violence or unfairness, many people tend to turn a blind eye. Yet, Superman’s existence motivates individuals, granting them the bravery to confront such wickedness. Similarly, Momo’s actions and words galvanize those around her, encouraging them to stand strong, much like Superman.”
In the discussion, Tatsu also revealed that Momo is his favorite character in the series, stating, “If I ever feel that I haven’t illustrated her as adorably as I desire, I will redraw her repeatedly, and it can seriously delay the completion of the final draft.” He also shared insights into some of the mythological elements that inspired the series.
Recently, the Dandadan manga announced that it would be taking a surprising one-month hiatus. This isn’t unusual in the manga world, and the new chapter of the series is already scheduled to return on February 24.
