The highest skin is “no longer obtainable”
Believe it or not, it has actually been 935 days since Halo’s Master Chief skin was last introduced in Fortnite! That date was June 3rd, 2022, but as a special holiday surprise, a collection of Halo items (including that skin) have just returned.
This is certainly fantastic news for any Halo enthusiasts who enjoy playing Fortnite, but the issue arises from the previously obtainable “Matte Black” skin that accompanied the original. Previously, if you played even a single game of Fortnite with the Master Chief skin on Xbox Series X|S, you could unlock the Matte Black variant at no additional cost.
However, this is unfortunately no longer the case. In a press release shared on social media this morning, the Fortnite team announced that the Matte Black skin is “no longer obtainable” as of December 2024. Here’s a citation:
“The Matte Black variant for The Master Chief is no longer unlockable. This variant is limited to players who acquired the outfit and played on an Xbox Series X|S before December 2024.”
Players who purchase the Master Chief today may request a return without needing to use a Return Label if they choose to do so, by contacting Player Support here: http://fn.gg/toughen“
As you can see, Epic Games is at least offering refunds for anyone disappointed by the unavailability of the Matte Black skin, but many Halo fans are puzzled as to why it is not accessible in the first place. Regardless, we have no answers!
So, by all means, go ahead and spend some V-Bucks on Halo merchandise in Fortnite over the holiday season, but just keep in mind that if you are particularly fond of the Matte Black skin, there is currently no way to acquire it.
Do you happen to own the Master Chief skin in Fortnite? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.
