Xsolla Launches Asia-Pacific Headquarters in Busan to Foster Global Game Development Hub

Xsolla has announced yet another “strategic alliance,” this time partnering with the mayor of Busan. The gaming commerce company has joined forces with the Busan Metropolitan City (BMC) and Busan Digital Asset Nexus (BDAN) to establish an Asia-Pacific (APAC) headquarters in the South Korean metropolis.

As part of this agreement, Xsolla will strive to transform Busan into a “global hub for game development and technological advancement.” This represents the company’s latest international collaboration in 2024, as it has previously partnered with the governments of Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia to establish game development academies.

Busan is set to feature a similar “cutting-edge talent development center” aimed at nurturing creators through mentorship, resources, and funding opportunities. Xsolla and BDAN also plan to focus on “exploring advancements in Web3 technologies to drive regional economic and digital progress.”

“This partnership highlights Busan’s remarkable potential as a center for gaming and technology,” stated Xsolla’s VP of global strategic partnerships, Rytis Joseph Jan. “By teaming up with BDAN and Busan City, we aim to foster opportunities for local talent and businesses while enhancing the economic and technological development of the area.”

No timetable established for Busan

Interestingly, Xsolla’s plans for Busan do not currently have a timeline for transforming the city into a distinguished game development hub. In contrast, for Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia, the commercial entity explicitly mentioned its desire for these countries’ development academies to create new job opportunities or become potential hotspots for the broader gaming industry by 2030.

Clearly, this partnership with Xsolla is intended to “demonstrate Busan’s potential to emerge as a global leader in the gaming and digital sectors,” according to Mayor Park Hyung-Joon. “We are eager to collaborate with Xsolla and BDAN to enhance our city’s digital competitiveness and generate new economic opportunities.”
